Gin meets mythology – welcome to the enchanting world of Dryad Gin

This is no ordinary gin distillery – welcome to the enchanting world of Dryad Gin.

A whimsical touch of magic. A healthy dose of mythism. Ample time-honored traditions. A travelling (yes, travelling) pub. And seriously good gin.
You’ve probably gathered by now that this is no ordinary gin distillery.

Dryad Gin is an award-winning gin – yes – but it’s also a haven of community, with offerings that span guided woodland walks through to private dining experiences and a very lovely pop-up pub.

The gin itself is delicious – but the people behind it make it clear that this is about so much more than very good beverages. It’s about bringing people together, embracing a spiritual connection with nature, delving deep into the feel-good world of mythicism and – enchantingly – “opening a door between worlds”.

What could be more intriguing?

Read on for our chat with Becky Wright, Master Dryad Gin Distiller and Founder of this heart-warming venture 🍸.

Hey Becky! Take us back to the beginning – how did Dryad Gin first come about?

I’ve always been passionate about fostering everyday joy – and I’ve always loved a bloomin’ good gin. One day, I realized I could pair these two passions to create moments of meaningful connection, where people arrived as strangers and left as firm friends. That’s how The Dryad Inn – a pub of no fixed abode – was born.

In the summer of 2022, I poured the first bottle of our evocative elixir, and I’ve been distilling the wonders of the woodland ever since.

Dryad Gin was inspired by the closure of many traditional country pubs – spaces that are vital for rural community life. I wanted to create something that brought people back together through purpose, place and play. Dryad Gin now spreads this community spirit through woodland walks, private dining experiences, tailored talks and our pop-up village pubs.

Our gin is hand-poured and distilled in small batches at the foothills of the Quantocks. Our signature Centaur Oak blend is named after the ancient tree spirits – dryads – and combines botanicals like cardamom, cinnamon, orange peel and almond for a rich, earthy flavour. Every bottle is numbered, blessed, and added to a handwritten ledger to honor our connection with nature. It’s a real labour of love.

Your mum was a big influence too, right?

Yes – my mum, Sheila Wright (or “She’ll” to those who knew her), passed away in 2021 and was the true gin-spiration behind Dryad Gin. She was an extraordinary woman who loved her gin and any experience that brought people together. Dryad Gin carries that spirit forward.

You run some lovely-sounding events – can you tell us a bit more about them?

We host guided Botanical Walks where we explore the diversity of local flora – flowers, trees and plants that complement gin-making. We forage for things like Angelica, Gorse Bark, Beech leaves, Rowan berries and Sloes. The walks are often timed with Bluebell or Mushroom season, which adds to the magic.

There’s a bit of mythology, a visit to our muse – The Dryad Tree – and we finish with a traditional toast called the Blackbird’s Beak and, of course, a taste of Dryad Gin. It’s about helping people connect to themselves, each other, and the land around them.

Who tends to come along to your events?

We get a real mix. Some are gin lovers, others just curious about the story or interested in the local landscape. People often come with friends or as part of a group looking for a meaningful, relaxing time. Attendees can expect a mix of folklore, foraging tips, natural beauty, and a good gin tale or two.

How do you promote your events?

We use Ticket Tailor for all our bookings. Beyond that, we keep things local and grassroots – sharing through WhatsApp groups, visitor centers, What’s On guides and social media. We also have a monthly newsletter. We don’t use paid advertising – we rely on community support and word-of-mouth.

Now onto ticketing – we’d love to know, why did you choose Ticket Tailor as your ticketing partner 😀?

Sustainability runs through everything we do, from sourcing ingredients to choosing suppliers. When we were looking for a new ticketing provider, Ticket Tailor stood out for its B Corp status, transparent values, and independence. We jumped ship from our previous provider and haven’t looked back.

We find that Ticket Tailor is easy to use, great value (with a simple flat fee per transaction), and aligns with our ethos – which really matters to us.

And how important are those shared values?

Really important. We do our own checks on suppliers to make sure their ethics and transparency match ours. We love that Ticket Tailor donates to climate charities – we donate to local beekeepers ourselves. They even spent a day rewilding in Somerset, just down the road from us – we’d love to have them volunteer at a pop-up pub one day!

Noted! 🙌 Have there been any standout Ticket Tailor features or moments?

The customer service has been excellent – both from our end and from what attendees experience. It makes running events much easier.

What’s next for Dryad Gin?

We’re really focused on connection and community. That means more pop-up pubs in places that have lost theirs, and more collaborations with local businesses for our botanical walks.

We’re also exploring ideas around “degrowth” – focusing on what people need, not creating more unnecessary wants. We now offer refill pouches instead of bottles and are always looking for ways to make our packaging more sustainable. At the end of the day, people don’t need more gin – they need more meaningful experiences.

Final words for those who’ve yet to discover the delights of Dryad Gin?

Dryad Gin isn’t just a bottle of gin. When you buy one, you’re helping keep something magical alive – this project that brings people together with fairy lights, toadstools, and a generous splash of Dryad spirit. With the help of our volunteers, we transform village halls into mystical pop-up pubs filled with laughter and libations. That’s what it’s all about.
