Who is Eventbrite’s biggest competitor?

When you crunch the numbers and get down to it – who really *is* Eventbrite's biggest competitor?

A close-up of raised hands in an audience making the sign of the horns

There are tons of ticketing platforms out there to rival Eventbrite – many with much better reviews and fairer pricing. But who, specifically, is Eventbrite’s biggest competitor? Defining this isn’t an exact science, but there are a number of tangible reasons why we think…

Ticket Tailor is Eventbrite’s no. 1 competitor.

If you’re looking into this topic it’s likely you’re fed up with Eventbrite's hefty fees, or haven’t had the best experience with the platform. Or perhaps you’re just curious about which other ticketing platforms there are out there that rival (and hopefully improve on) Eventbrite’s services. Either way, we’re willing to bet you’ve seen Ticket Tailor pop up as an Eventbrite alternative across your search avenues of choice, whether Google, ChatGPT, or industry round-ups.

But can Ticket Tailor really be classed as Eventbrite’s number one competitor? There are a number of reasons why we think the answer is yet – let’s break them down.

Why Ticket Tailor is Eventbrite’s biggest competitor

What makes a company a notable competitor? In the world of event ticketing, looking at ticket sales is a good place to start. Since 2019, Ticket Tailor’s ticket sales have grown from 4% of Eventbrite’s figures to 19% globally. But when we’re looking at the UK alone, Ticket Tailor is actually 50% of the size of Eventbrite when it comes to ticket numbers. For example, in Q3 of 2024, Eventbrite’s total UK ticket sales amounted to 3.1 million while Ticket Tailor’s came to 1.5 million.

The truth is, Ticket Tailor is quickly catching up with Eventbrite’s numbers. But what’s even more notable is that, despite being smaller than Eventbrite in terms of ticket sales, Ticket Tailor was profitable across Q3 2024, while Eventbrite wasn’t. In fact, they made a net loss of $7m. Ouch.

We think this positions Ticket Tailor as one of Eventbrite’s strongest competitors. Considering this, it’s interesting to note that, while Eventbrite’s fees are much higher than Ticket Tailor’s. In the US, the Eventbrite fee is 3.7% of the ticket price plus $1.79 per ticket. In the UK, the fee is 6.95% of the ticket price plus £0.59 per ticket. Additionally, a 2.9% payment processing fee applies per order. Whereas with Ticket Tailor it's a simple flat fee of £0.60 in the UK, or $0.75, plus a payment processing fee (that varies depending on the processor.)

Plus, with Ticket Tailor you can unlock even greater savings if you purchase credits up front, bringing those prices down to £0.22 and $0.28 per ticket respectively.

Why Event Organizers are switching from Eventbrite to leading competitor, Ticket Tailor

Eventbrite doesn’t fare too brilliantly in the world of reviews (check out our summary of Eventbrite reviews for all you need to know). So it makes sense that a lot of users are switching platforms. Here’s why event organizers prefer Ticket Tailor to Eventbrite (we know this first hand – they’ve told us!).

We have much lower fees

You may have heard about Eventbrite’s pricing dramas over the past couple of years. In a nutshell, they made some pricing changes that resulted in extra costs for virtually everyone that used their platform. They got pretty slated for this and so reversed the changes. BUT – even with this reversal, Ticket Tailor still offers drastically lower fees than Eventbrite (in fact, our ticketing fees are the lowest on the market).

We have a whole article explaining how much you can save by switching from Ticket Tailor to Eventbrite (hint: for larger scale and high-ticket-price events, this could literally be in the tens of thousands a year. Even for much smaller events, you could save hundreds or thousands a year). Check out the article here:

Many of our Event Creators – like Northern Frights creator Laura Ripley – often cite how switching has saved them thousands in fees. In the case of Lou Nylander, founder of Wildflowers of London, switching literally meant she could keep her events going 🙏.

We offer 24/7 support for everyone

Every single user on our platform is able to get support round the clock with Ticket Tailor. That includes those who run events of all shapes and sizes, including free events (so, people who don’t pay to use Ticket Tailor). Whoever you are, and whatever your event looks like, we’ll get back to queries within a few minutes – something that we’ve been praised for time and time again across reviews

With Ticket Tailor, you own your own data

This is a biggie. Ticket Tailor never touches your customer data. In fact, we can’t (not that we want to) because we never actually own it, unlike Eventbrite.

When you use Eventbrite, they own any data collected about your customers, which means they can send marketing stuff to them. They could even send promotions of other competing events to them, if they wanted. Which isn’t exactly brilliant news for you and your events business.

“When we were comparing Ticket Tailor to other platforms, what we realized is that there's other platforms that actually use the data that they collect to sell those people other events – we didn't want any part of that.” – Gemma Martini, Founder & CEO of Martini Films Studios

Your event, your branding

You can fully customize your event box office pages to reflect your brand from colors and fonts to layouts (so no glaring Ticket Tailor branding everywhere). You can even white label your account to remove our logo from the footer entirely. Or you can embed a Ticket Tailor widget directly into your website. Eventbrite goes a lot stronger with its own branding on event box office pages – which we think can kind of detract from, you know, your event. Just saying.

We’re a B Corp

This is probably the differentiator we’re most proud of. We’re a certified B Corporation (B Corp)! Which means we genuinely care about balancing profit with purpose, and are held to account on this. We have a useful article explaining what the whole B Corp movement is about, which you might find interesting. But for now, here’s the official definition of a B Corp:

“Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.”

We donate 1p per ticket sold to important environmental charities

Our Penny For The Planet initiative sees us donate 1p per every ticket sold through our platform to our partnering environmental charities. So, you could say, when you use Ticket Tailor, you’re quite literally helping save the planet 😌.

That whole event-discovery thing is a myth

Eventbrite is an event discovery platform that acts as a sort of directory for events. Aka, your event could be discovered through their platform if you use it for ticketing. Sounds great, right? Not necessarily…

We recently wrote an article exploring why many event organizers are moving away from event discovery platforms in favor of white-label ticketing solutions. The fact is, platforms like Eventbrite charge high fees for the whole event-discovery thing, when in fact this isn’t actually a very powerful event marketing tool at all. In fact, only 2% of event organizers say discovery platforms are their most important marketing channel.

You can explore the full article and discover why event discovery platforms don’t actually make much financial sense here:

Eventbrite’s biggest competitor? Who cares 🤷

Ultimately we don’t think it really matters who Eventbrite’s biggest competitor is. But we do really want event creators to know that our platform was designed to make their lives easier without the need to pay really hefty fees. We know Eventbrite will be a good choice for some event organizers – but we genuinely believe Ticket Tailor is the better choice for many. Our platform is packed full of all the ticketing features you could need, we offer industry-leading low fees, and we’re always on-hand to help.
